After Colleen and I got home on Friday, they decided to show me Millennium Park – a great place to go for a jog, cycle, or have some play time with your dog. The park itself is pretty big, so if your dog isn’t a fan of other people or dogs, you can easily take them to a more secluded area.
We saw lots of dogs off leash, but I probably wouldn’t do that for Mocha or Latte. Those two little terrors have a high prey drive and would just run off, never to be found again lol.
I brought my 50mm for this trip and thought it would be the perfect time to grab some cute pet portraits of my nephew Spud and practice some of my photography on my newest guinea pigs (read: Colleen and Tyler). We got to the park right around sunset/golden hour, which is THE best time to take photos. Overcast days come in a close second.
Spud was a good lil dude and was great with other dogs. Loved to sniff and say hello, but mostly just kept to himself. (Except when he would see other dogs chasing things, then he wanted to chase too!) Look at this little goober.
Colleen and Tyler were more than happy to be my test subjects for the day and we definitely got a lot of great shots. Spud was not as happy being in the photos (he wanted to be put down constantly), but we still got some cute photos even if he looks derpy as hell in them.
I do a lot of cosplay photography and constantly direct my friends with their posing (tilt your head down, extend your leg, etc.) so it was fun to direct Colleen and Tyler who have no experience with much of this. My mantra for photography and posing is “the more painful the pose, the better you look on camera.” It’s been true so far!
It was pretty funny to see my sister do a regular pose and then have me say repeatedly, “can you straighten your back? further?? more??? no, a little bit more????” She did great though. 🙂
Colleen being cute as always.
I got tons of great practice (with photography and directing!), so I’m satisfied with how they turned out. Definitely looking forward to practicing more of my photography in the future and I cannot wait to do some fall photos!
If there’s one thing I get upset about when it comes to California, it’s that we have no seasons haha. In the Bay Area you KIND OF get seasons (winter is pretty much “it is raining for a few weeks straight”), but in San Diego it’s just… hot… all the time. Like, every December it is blazing hot and in the 90s. We’re lucky if we even get a week of rain during the entire year. When it does rain for those few days in February, suddenly no one can drive and we get into five million accidents on all the freeways, from Los Angeles all the way down to San Diego.
Apparently anything not-sunny is very, very scary.
Don’t think I’ll miss that too much in October!
